A day at Las Luciérnagas.

Las Luciérnagas day runs from 8:30am - 3:30pm with an early release on Fridays at 1:00pm

Arrival and Free Play.

Children arrive between 8:30 and 9am where they are greeted by teachers! Students complete health checks each day and then are welcomed into the space to explore and engage with movement, play, and art activities of their choice. Teachers spend this time connecting and playing with students, supporting their holistic growth.

Snack.

Healthy snack is provided for all students at Las Luciérnagas in the morning (10am) and afternoon (2:45pm). We accommodate all food allergies and dietary restrictions. During snack, students have time to connect with each other, sing meal songs, and nourish their growing bodies.

Projects and Play.

After nourishing snacks, children engage in special projects and play time. Projects are carefully created by the Las Luciérnagas teaching team to reflect, children’s interests, their areas of growth, and important developmental domains. Some previous projects include sending letters in the mail, planting seeds and young plants, creating obstacle courses in the gym, and many diverse art projects! During this time play is central and children have the freedom to move between activities.

Lunch.

All children bring lunch from home to Las Luciérnagas. During lunchtime students connect with others through songs, stories, and sharing about different foods in different families and cultures.

Nap and Quiet Time.

Younger children (2-3 years old) are given a rest time of up to 2 hours, older children (3-5 years old) are given a rest time of 1-2 hours each day at Las Luciérnagas. As children wake up they will be provided snacks and books, puzzles or other quiet activities.

Wind Down and Pick Up.

As children wake up from naps and engage in some quiet activities, teachers help students wind down from their busy and exciting day at Las Luciérnagas and help them prepare to head home. At 3pm grown-ups return to pick up students and hear all about their adventures!
